First Look: Valkyria Chronicles 3: Unrecorded Chronicles Part 1 Blue Packaging [Limited Edition] (Japan)
Jun 30th 8:23 pm
I’m not sure if I will ever be able actually play the game that the OVA is based of but because I’m as big Valkyria Chronicles fan I ordered the OVA nevertheless. It looks much more mature than the first season and I’m looking forward to watch it when some decent subs are available. And the characters from the first game / the anime series are also in it by the way *_*.
One feature of the Limited Edition is the sleeve case.
The normal Blu-ray case uses the same designs.
- the CD offers an audio drama (~14 minutes)
- a download code for additional for the PSP game
- a “booklet” with 8 pages
- some promotional material

LPCM Audio Japanese 2304 kbps 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit (audio commentary)
Running length: 0:29:55
Picture Quality / Audio Quality:
It looks quite good, but sometimes a little bit blurry. They used a lot of tricks to increase the realism, e.g. changing the sharpness of elements to allow more depth. I didn’t see any banding so far, only sometimes some choppy outlines. Unfortunately, they only put a stereo mix on the disc. For such an action-related OVA a 5.1 mix would have made more sense.
The menu is quite simple but fits to the show and offers some background music.
The only bonus material on the disc is an audio commentary with Yuuichi Nakamura (Kurt Irving) and Susumu Chiba (Welkin Gunther).

I already collected all Bakemonogatari volumes so the sequel is a must buy for me. Nisemonogatari has a different focus but I enjoyed it as much as it predecessor. Please note that some photos shows some moire, that isn’t as visible as on the items. There might be some changes to the broadcast episodes but

I ordered the Fate/Zero box from Amazon.co.jp because it was cheaper than from Rightstuf, so I got it one day after the Japanese release. This article is quite short and won’t write anything about the series itself. When I checked the episodes’ runtimes it looks there a couple of minutes new material in comparison to

“Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai.” is my favorite series of the Spring season and will probably also be one of my all-time favorites, so the Blu-rays are a must buy for me. The extras and the great image quality make the series really import-worthy. Packaging: The slipcase is quite

Sentai Filmworks licensed Angel Beats! and will release it with an English dub and Japanese language / English subitles on DVD and Blu-ray, but no release date was mentioned so far. However the dub will premiere at Anime Boston (April 22-24), so I expect a release a few months later. If they include all the

Another series finished buying! I’m at the moment synchronizing the existing subtitles from fansubs to the series and I’m currently at Volume 4 and I hope I will finish this by next week, so I will then offer the subtitles. This volume includes the last episode of the TV run (13, Graduation), the home video

I’m about a month late with this article, but the one for Vol. 7 will be posted shortly. This Blu-ray includes the episodes 11 (Change the World) and 12 (Knockin’ on heaven’s door). Packaging: Another very beautiful cover artwork by NaGa and also the inside illustration in the anime’s style is fantastic. The packaging itself

Aniplex will bring the Japanese Blu-ray box of Kara no Kyoukai / Garden of Sinners to the Unites States. English subtitles were already listed before for the set and now it looks like also the bonus material will be subtitled and a translation for the Japanese text in the “Deluxe Visual Chronicle Book” will be

If a more than one interesting news is coming up on a day I don’t want to do several small posts and also don’t want to find a sensible title, so I will now only mention the date and the regions. Redline is listed on Rightstuf (February 22/2011), but at the moment only with an

I better start by apologizing for the many Yui screenshots I did, because she had in episode 4 so many funny and cute scenes^^. Packaging This time the BD slipcase came without any “dents”^^. The artworks are great again and I really want an artbook with them… Supplements: There’s a booklet but no promotional stuff.

Angel Beats! is the series that I decided to buy for this season. I also enjoyed a lot of other shows of this season but I will wait for US releases for the other ones, and Angel Beats! offers a very nice packaging and also some extras that probably won’t be available when it’s licensed.
