First Look: Hanasaku Iroha Vol. 1 First Press (Japan)
Jul 22nd 12:26 am
HanaIro is another show of the spring season that I really enjoyed and the promise of artboxes gave me another reason to collect it. Furthermore, with 3 episodes per disc it’s a little bit cheaper than for example Nichijou. A more detailed article should be available soon on Ultimatemegax blog, so my article is more a collection of photos and screenshots.
The illustration on the artbox was drawn by Mel Kishida and looks gorgeous. It’s also very well made and seems solid.
The case for the Blu-ray offers a nice drawing in the anime’s style and also looks great.
The small book is titled “hanairo notebook vol.01″ and has 65 color pages.
- 2 pages about the episodes’ contents
- 8 pages with character illustrations and line arts (Ohana and Minko)
- artwork of the box (2 pages)
- storyboards for the opening (19 pages) and the ending (5 pages)
- key animation drawings of the opening and ending (16 pages)
- Jiroumaru’s draft “The Bubble-smothered New Employee Training Session” (thx to ultimatemegax post on mania.com)
Disc Contents and other information:
Japanese name: 花咲くいろは 1
Region Code: region free
Disc type: BD25
Catalog No.: PCXG-50091
Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video 31920 kbps 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
Audio: Japanese / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit
Audio: Japanese / Dolby Digital Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 640 kbps (character commentary)
Audio: Japanese / Dolby Digital Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 640 kbps (audio commentary)
It looks a little bit more crisp than Angel Beats! I think but Ano Hana and Nichijou both look sharper. I saw some minor grain in a dark scene but that’s nothing uncommon for anime, the compression handles this very well. It still looks very good for a TV show because the drawings look very realistic in comparison to other shows and have a lot of details.
- creditless opening
- character audio commentary for episode 1: Ohana Matsumae (Kanae Itou) & Tomoe Wajima (Mamiko Noto)
- audio commentary for episode 1: Kanae Itou (Ohana), Kenji Horikawa (producer), Masahiro Ando (director) & Takayuki Nagatani (producer)

The long-awaited, very expensive (^^;) Clannad ~After Story~ Blu-ray box finally arrived and here’s my first look. I only watched some parts but I didn’t encounter any bad surprises so far, so that I’m very satisfied with this release. I only criticize the high price, but this is one of my favorite series, so I…

I ordered this Blu-ray because the price was really low (under 2000 Yen). It offers only the first episode, but some extras like a mouse pad, so the price is really fine for Japanese Blu-ray. I watch the series as fansubs and it’s not the best one this season but I think it’s one of…

Clannad After Story is now listed on CD-Japan. It will contain English subtitles, the creditless OP/ED, an illustration gallery and promotion clips like the Clannad / Kanon 2006 Blu-ray sets before. The price also is the same: 59600 Yen without taxes. A must-have for me even for this price… EDIT: Here’s the Amazon link: Source:…
