First Look: Angel Beats! Vol. 1 Limited Edition – Japan
Jun 25th 12:17 am
Angel Beats! is the series that I decided to buy for this season. I also enjoyed a lot of other shows of this season but I will wait for US releases for the other ones, and Angel Beats! offers a very nice packaging and also some extras that probably won’t be available when it’s licensed.
The back is just a piece of paper (pic 3) and the back looks like pic 4. I really like the cover illustration and I want a high resolution scan of the shooting Yuri that is on the back of the inner case *_*. The material used is quite good, however as visible in Pic 4 it’s quite sensitive to pressure. Unfortunately, the Amazon.co.jp packaging is not very safe…
The 12 pages booklet consists of small introduction to the episodes, the sheet music of the opening “My Soul, Your Beats!” / the ending “Brave Song” and credits at the end.
Region Code: region free
Disc type: BD25
Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 38057 kbps / 1080p / 23,976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
Audio: Japanese / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit
Audio: Japanese / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit (Commentary)
The menu is quite simple but the nimation in the background has some style and goes on for about 5 minutes.
There’s a commentary by the characters (similar to Bakemonogatari) for both episodes, the creditless OP/ED and the web previews (instead of some flying like the on-air previews they have some scenes from the next episode). There’s also a bonus CD with an audio drama (~32 minutes). It’s seems to be more funny than serious…
Some scenes look really great and some seem to have some slight issues, but this mostly seems to be related to the source material which sometimes looks very clean and other times has some digital noise or it looks a little bit blurry (which might be intended sometimes). It’s similar to drawing quality of the show which also varies between awesome and average^^;.
I think this shows could have benefitted from a 5.1 mix because of the music and the action and concert scenes. At least it’s 24bit PCM stereo mix.

I already collected all Bakemonogatari volumes so the sequel is a must buy for me. Nisemonogatari has a different focus but I enjoyed it as much as it predecessor. Please note that some photos shows some moire, that isn’t as visible as on the items. There might be some changes to the broadcast episodes but

I ordered the Fate/Zero box from Amazon.co.jp because it was cheaper than from Rightstuf, so I got it one day after the Japanese release. This article is quite short and won’t write anything about the series itself. When I checked the episodes’ runtimes it looks there a couple of minutes new material in comparison to

I’m not sure if I will ever be able actually play the game that the OVA is based of but because I’m as big Valkyria Chronicles fan I ordered the OVA nevertheless. It looks much more mature than the first season and I’m looking forward to watch it when some decent subs are available. And

“Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai.” is my favorite series of the Spring season and will probably also be one of my all-time favorites, so the Blu-rays are a must buy for me. The extras and the great image quality make the series really import-worthy. Packaging: The slipcase is quite

Sentai Filmworks licensed Angel Beats! and will release it with an English dub and Japanese language / English subitles on DVD and Blu-ray, but no release date was mentioned so far. However the dub will premiere at Anime Boston (April 22-24), so I expect a release a few months later. If they include all the

Another series finished buying! I’m at the moment synchronizing the existing subtitles from fansubs to the series and I’m currently at Volume 4 and I hope I will finish this by next week, so I will then offer the subtitles. This volume includes the last episode of the TV run (13, Graduation), the home video

I’m about a month late with this article, but the one for Vol. 7 will be posted shortly. This Blu-ray includes the episodes 11 (Change the World) and 12 (Knockin’ on heaven’s door). Packaging: Another very beautiful cover artwork by NaGa and also the inside illustration in the anime’s style is fantastic. The packaging itself

If a more than one interesting news is coming up on a day I don’t want to do several small posts and also don’t want to find a sensible title, so I will now only mention the date and the regions. Redline is listed on Rightstuf (February 22/2011), but at the moment only with an
