First Look: Evangelion 2.22: You can (not) advance – (Limited Edition Gift Set) – HONG KONG
Aug 5th 4:38 am
I own the Hong Kong version of Evangelion 2.22 now for about several weeks and before writing a comparison between the German, Hong Kong and Japanese version I decided to complete my small “Fist Look” of the disc.
Packaging and Supplements:
The Limited Edition Gift Set offers a large booklet, a bag and a pocket lamp, which is able to project Rei at a wall (I don’t know if there are other versions). I tested this at night and it is possible to project the image up to several meters.
The “magazine” consists of interviews with the staff, stills and character images however it’s in Chinese^^;. It has 28 pages.
The packaging of the Blu-ray is like a cheaper produced version of the Japanese version. The material “feels” cheaper and the paint peeled partly off at the opening of the slipcase.
The booklet is more or lessthe same like the Japanese one but it obviously now in Chinese.
It’s strange that a CD-R with a Mari design is part of the set O_o.
Disc Contents:
Region Code: Region A (verified this on a Code B player)
Disc type: BD25
Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video 19998 kbps 1080p / 23,976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
Audio:
DTS-HD Master Audio Japanese 2668 kbps 6.1 / 48 kHz / 2668 kbps / 16-bit (DTS Core: 6.1-ES / 48 kHz / 1509 kbps / 16-bit)
Dolby TrueHD Audio Japanese 2121 kbps 6.1 / 48 kHz / 2121 kbps / 16-bit (AC3 Embedded: 5.1 / 48 kHz / 640 kbps / DN -4dB)
Dolby Digital Audio Chinese 192 kbps 2.0 / 48 kHz / 192 kbps / DN -4dB
Dolby Digital Audio Japanese 192 kbps 2.0 / 48 kHz / 192 kbps / DN -4dB
English and Chinese subtitles
The English subtitles seem to be same like the ones used in the international print of 2.0 that run on festivals, but the new scenes didnt’ get translated very well.
BDInfo: here
Picture Quality:
There are more compression artifacts in the picture, which makes sense because the bitrate is much lower. I will investigate this more in my upcoming comparison.
Bonus Material:
There’s no bonus material at all in this set. It is sold separetely…
Menu Shots:

So does this not work on a region B player?
I have a region A Evangelion 1.11 US version and it works on my region B player

The US version was Code A,B as far as I know, but this HK version is restricted to Code A (it does not work on my Code B player). Wait for the Manga UK version that will be released in 2011, or perhaps the Funimation disc will also be Code A,B again.

Thanks for the info TMSIDR ^_^
That really sucks, I might get the Japanese version if I can find a first run copy……I can’t speak Japanese but I like collector stuff and atleast it will play on my PS3 lol
Yh Il wait for the US/UK release. I hope they do a similar job with the packaging to this version though or the Japanese version as the UK version is bad and the US version is a lil better (hence got that version)
Thanks again ^_^
